THE REVIEW

The Nutriteam Countertop (White Enamel, Glass Collection) Water distiller by Megahome is a countertop home water distillation unit and is by far the most popular water purification/filtration device we have reviewed  and for good reason. We looked at over 200 reviews for this product and a staggering 96% gave the Nutriteam White Enamel Countertop Water Distiller a 4-5 star rating. Nearly all the reviews commented on how simple the Water distiller is to use;  simply pour the water in, press a button, wait 5.5 hours and you have a gallon of the purest water you are likely to taste and there is no complicated installation necessary. The unit is extremely reliable with the fewest reports of breakdowns and malfunctions. Many of the reviewers who purchased the  Nutriteam White Enamel Countertop Water Distiller over 3 years ago have said the unit still works perfectly. This may be due to the fact that it has such a simple design with no complicated parts or electronics which could break down. It costs around 25-30 cents per gallon of water to run which is considerably cheaper than buying bottled water, and does not waste any water during the purification process like reverse osmosis system would.

One thing to bear in mind though is that it takes around 5.5 hours to produce 1 gallon of pure water which some users found a little annoying, although most users found that 1-2 gallons was more than ample for their drinking and cooking needs for the day. There is an automatic shutoff feature which turns the unit off once all the water has been distilled.

The distillation process mimics the natural cycle of water in nature by evaporating the water with heat into steam which rises leaving all the impurities behind. The steam is then cooled and collects as pure water in the glass container. Many first time distiller users were astonished at how much impurities are left behind after the process. Over 70% of users found that if they let the distiller boil until all the water has been distilled then the left over impurities get baked onto the bottom of the unit. To get around this most users either switch off the unit after 5 hours just before all the water is distilled, some use an automatic timer.

The unit is very easy to clean and comes with residue cleaner to remove any leftover residue, although the most reviewers suggest soaking  the inside of the unit with watered vinegar for a few minutes then rinsing, this has the same desired affect.

One of the drawbacks of this product is that some people find the cooling fan to be loud, other reviewers have mentioned that there is no OFF button, so you have to wait plug the unit out manually or wait until the automatic shutoff once all the water has been distilled.

Because of the quality of the water produced, its ease of use and low running / maintenance costs we would highly recommend the Nutriteam White Enamel Countertop Water Distiller.  We found Amazon.com has the best price for the MegaHome Countertop Water Distiller. Click here to check it out
